Hooked on Hessian is an arts program specialising in rug making that operates with the Perth community in Western Australia.
The techniques used by Hooked on Hessian are very different from the methods of rug-making known to most people. A hand machine, called a Rumpelstilskin which looks similar to an eggbeater simplifies the whole process of fixing the thread where the color is wanted. It lets the creative process flow from design to finished product. The end result is a functional mat, wall hanging, cushion cover or whatever your imagination can come up with!
It's fun, creative, safe and hassle free. With no small needles to thread, it is suitable for all from the age of 6 to 116.
The Hooked on Hessian team comprises Nathan and his assistant (mum) Norma. Together they have taken Hooked on Hessian to schools, scout groups, community halls, libraries, seniors homes, festivals, shopping centres and creative workshops.
Some people love it so much they want to buy a frame and a rumpelstilskin and these can be ordered here
